This year, we adjusted even more to the "new normal,” embraced hybrid experiences, expanded our operations and product capabilities, and helped 4K+ brands grow their businesses with SMS. It was a big year for consumers, for you, and for us. Here’s a look back at some of our favorite moments and highlights. And take a stroll down the memory lane of 2020, if you like.

We kicked off the year with a rebrand: a new website, logo, and color palette, meant to drive our brand forward to the next phase of growth. We acquired two companies—Tone and Privy—to help us expand into new areas of growth and opportunity for our customers. And speaking of customers—over 4,000 brands now rely on text messaging powered by the Attentive platform, 155% YoY growth. We also saw more shoppers opting into our customers’ text messaging programs, contributing to 90% YoY subscriber growth. We call that a double-double.
So far this year, the brands who partner with us have collectively driven a record $10 billion in revenue from text messaging—almost tripling what they generated from the channel last year. To put that into perspective, that’s about 2x the GDP of Fiji ($4.8 billion).

Marketers leaned into SMS as a go-to channel for their engaged VIP audience. From early access to exclusive offers, our customers used the word “secret” in 2,300+ SMS campaigns this year—inviting subscribers to get in on a good offer before others. If you’re new to SMS, or just looking to try something new, here’s a secret: shoppers love getting first access. Try it as an incentive in your campaign, or promote it as a perk on your sign-up unit.
We launched Attentive’s own SMS channel in 2020, and this year, we put our best practices into action to grow our list and build more meaningful relationships with our subscribers. Between landing pages, mobile and desktop sign-up units, and social promotion, we increased our SMS subscribers by over 300%, while growing our email list, too. Our favorite response to one of our texts? “This is awesome!” 💛

While the majority of our team is located in North America, many have ties to different cultures and experiences around the globe. We learned that folks across our team speak over 15 languages. After English, Chinese and Spanish are the most spoken languages among our team, followed by German, Korean, and French. The rarest include Serbian, Russian, Hebrew, and Vietnamese.
We’re whole people defined by more than our work; a diverse crew that brings many talents to the table. We’re made up of athletes, like rugby players, sailors, and scuba divers. We have musicians who play instruments like the cello, violin, and ukelele. You’ll also find artists gifted in woodworking, paper quilling, and oil painting. But the awards for the most unique hobby have to go to the person who grows rare plants, and the one who’s perfected their lightsaber spinning.
On any given day, you’ll find one of our most popular Slack channels, #Pets, lit up with as many cute pictures as it can handle—from pet parades to Halloween costumes. The majority of our team members’ pets are dogs and cats. But if you look closely, you’ll be lucky enough to spot chameleons, bunnies, chickens, rats, guinea pigs, and bees in the mix.
